My name is Morgan Goin and I'm a Mission Designer at Hangar 13. I'm a level designer with a focus on scripting, gameplay, cinematics, prototyping mechanics, and anything else my teammates need.
I've always had a passion for video games- even the terrible Barbie games I got when I was younger! The game that really got me into games was Neverwinter Nights; I would spend hours and hours playing and replaying a scene or fight in a game just to pick apart the different possible outcomes and triggers. |
I went to Texas A&M University to study archaeology. I spent four years studying psychology, evolutionary biology, behavior, and culture; essentially, how people are and how they interact with stuff, either physical or metaphorical. Funnily enough, these are the same fields that developers look to when designing a game!
After getting my bachelors, I realized that although I could do the work, it wasn't making me happy. I decided to change fields and work on something challenging and interesting: video game design. |
While at the Guildhall, my ability to analyze and create games has greatly improved. I have been fortunate to work with many creative people from disparate fields and to create amazing games with them. In addition, I found that I have a passion for scripting and began teaching myself everything that I can.
During the summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to be a teacher's assistant during a summer camp that taught middle- and high-schoolers how to make a 2D game in Unity. I taught myself Unity and the basics of C# over two weeks and then helped the kids build their games. I fixed bugs, read documentation, and even wrote a few custom scripts for their games. It was exciting and fun to build the game mechanics from the ground up, and I can't wait to work on my next big project.
